Folkestone Invicta 3 Whitstable Town 0

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Tuesday 27th October 2015

Whitstable came away from Folkestone pointless as they lost 3-0 to title chasing Invicta.

Dan Eason and Scott Punton were making their debuts for Town as it was a fairly even start to the game. The first opportunity came in the third minute for the hosts as Jon Pilbeam’s deep cross was headed back across by Ashley Miller but Carl Rook couldn’t turn his close range header home. At the other end, Kieron Campbell had Whitstable’s first shot on target but his attempt was saved easily by Tim Roberts.  The deadlock was eventually broken on seventeen minutes as Ian Draycott got onto a ball from Ashley Miller and fired into the top corner. Town did have some chances to get back in the game as firstly Ira Jackson shot straight at Roberts and then Conner Heffernan’s attempt also did not trouble the Folkestone keeper. Jackson had another attempt over the bar on 24 minutes.  Miller curled over a 25-yard free kick just wide on the half hour and Nat Blanks had a volley well saved by Eason and nobody could fire away the rebound.  Folkestone increased their lead on 37 minutes when a Miller corner was met by Frankie Chappell who headed home at the near post.

The second half saw Connor Heffernan have two attempts from distance with one going over the bar and the other saved by Roberts.  Eason saved well to deny Pilbeam on 65 minutes and the game was sealed three minutes later as Rook rose unchallenged in the Whitstable penalty area to head home from a cross from Josh Vincent. After that there was little threat from either side as they game died with Folkestone easy winners.

Town must now pick themselves up again before the game at home to Walton & Hersham on Saturday.
