Whitstable Town had to settle for a point in a scoreless draw against Corinthian Casuals on Saturday.

The early exchanges were fairly even but it was Casuals who had more of the meaningful chances during this period.  In the second minute Michael Fahm crossed to find Dave Hodges who fired wide. Fahm was again involved after 12 minutes when a clearance from Luke Watkins rebounded off the Casuals striker

but the ball went wide.  After 17 minutes Hodges pushed forward but managed to spoon his attempt wide of the target. Town had to wait until the 22nd minute when Steve Hafner sent the ball well over the bar. After 36 minutes Town had a strong penalty appeal turned down when the ball was sent goal ward and a Casuals hand appeared to clear the ball off the line. However the referee turned the appeal away. Town were now creating more opportunities and after 29 minutes Dan Keyte sent in a dangerous cross but nobody could get on the end and the chance was gone. Town again threatened two minutes later when Hafner put in a cross but Laurence Harvey could not get his shot away. Then on 43 minutes Casuals came closest to scoring when Jamie Byatt broke into  the penalty area from the left and unleashed a shot that hammered into the underside of the bar and away.  Right on half time Hafner had a free kick from just outside the area but this attempt was easily saved by  Danny Bracken in the Casuals goal.

Town created the first chances of the second half. Firstly Dan Keyte broke free but cut his shot back over the bar and four minutes later Hafner created space but his shot went straight at Bracken.  Then came a four minute spell with chances at both

ends. Firstly, Town’s Jack Parter shot wide after the hour and a minute later Jamie Byatt did the same at the other end. Town defence were nearly caught out on 62 minutes when they were slow to clear the ball. Hodges got a foot to the loose ball and it went wide. Parter then put a ball into the area but Heard could not quite get to the ball and it went away. Town nearly got a gift with 12 minutes to go when Dave Raggett put a ball across which Joe Hicks got in a tangle and put the ball just over his own goal. Both teams could have stolen the points in the final ten minutes and in injury time Town survived a scare when Byatt shot straight at Watkins from a dangerous position on the edge of the box.

The final whistle signalled the final whistle and a fair result and with the point Town restored their nine point gap from the relegation zone.
