GUERNSEY 1 WHITSTABLE TOWN 1
Bostik League South East
Saturday December 15 2018 14.00

Whitstable travelled to Guernsey missing many regular players, but picked up a good point on a wet and windy day in the Channel Islands. Ricky Freeman, Danny Williams, Stephen Smith, Charlie Smith and Tom Walmsley were all unavailable to play up front, so Nathan Hardwick returned for his first game since August and with John Walker, Louis Sprosen, Harry Brown, Michael Jenner and Kyran Connolly also absent, Rhys Brain was the lone option from the bench.

It looked at one stage as though the game might be called off, but despite the driving rain and a very high wind, the referee decided the game could go ahead. After soaking up some early Guernsey pressure, Whitstable took the lead in the 27th minute, giving them a chance of ending their recent poor run of three successive defeats. The goal followed some good work from the defence that saw Rob Gillman thread a great ball forward and Hardwick cross to Jordan Wright, who collected the ball, took it around the Guernsey goalkeeper Callum Stanton and calmly scored. The home side, who had won three of their last four games, fought hard to find a way back into the game, but Whitstable defended well to keep them out until late in the game. Shortly after the referee had booked Charlton Gauvain for going down in the box, he did point to the spot for a foul by Teddy Nelson on Paris Pereira in the 82nd minute and Matt Loaring made it 1-1. It stayed that way, despite some late pressure on Dan Eason’s goal and Whitstable made the long trip back with a hard earned point.

Unfortunately, there will be no detailed match report, statistics or photos for this match.

The next game is on Boxing Day, when Ramsgate are the visitors to the Belmont, when Whitstable manager Scott Porter should welcome a number of players back to the squad.
