Sevenoaks Town Under 21’s 0 Whitstable Town Under 21’s 1

The second pre-season game of the season versus Sevenoaks for the u21 squad. A game we expected to be playing against the Sevenoaks u21 side but it turns out that we were playing a more senior side. We took a young team of mostly 17 and 18 year olds to see them in action and although this is our second game as a team it was a different team to the last friendly. Once again our focus in the game was tactical discipline in defence and to mirror what we have been working on at training and that is keeping possession of the ball. We were impressed with the attitude and discipline of the boys and we saw a much more confident approach to the game by the younger players. Our goal came from a well worked passing exchange down the left wing after a meticulous build up from midfield and after the exchange on the wing the ball was cut back and Sam Josh finished of the move with a solid left foot strike. Credit must be given to all the players as they all contributed to working the ball forward. We had a few more chances in the first half with Andy McGinty hitting the angle of the goals with a superb free kick. The second half started with a fierce exchange of attacks by Sevenoaks but they were unable to penetrate our defence as the boys kept both the midfield and backline compact and dispossessed most of their attacks. We had several clear chances both on the ground and in the air but the young strikers could not find the target. A good win for both the club and team this will be good for our confidence and also our preseason preparation. Well done to all the players.
