Ryman Under 21’s League (South)

Saturday 8th March 2014

With a weakened squad  due to first team call ups, the Under 21’s went to Thamesmead to play one of the favourites for the league.  Physically Thamesmead are a huge team and it seemed they did not have a player under six foot. Whitstable appeared to have  had a massive game on our hands. Town  started the game well , looking really good in defence and a decent first half performance saw us go in 3-0 at half time thanks to goals from Joe Lester (2) and Matt Martin.

Despite Thamesmead putting three players up front, the Town defence stood firm in the second half, it was Whitstable who scored the fourth with the goal of the game. Martin turned tightly to lose his huge marker and place a thirty yard strike into the top corner.  The game got better with Town manager Bob Reardon  bringing on Cameron George to score with his first touch with a decent strike. It was a good  from all and especially from the solid back four.

Bob Reardon said after the game that he would like to put on record, the excellent hard working training sessions put on by Ian Grieves are starting to pay dividends.
