Update and report from Kevin Knowles

We have had just one friendly and the boys don’t really know one another, and on Tuesday at training we worked on a bit of shape for really the first time. The boys were great and took it all on board both Tuesday and Saturday. We started a bit slowly giving a sloppy goal away early doors but I was so impressed by their attitude and endeavour to get themselves back in the match, which paid off as they went into half time back on level terms at half time with a great finish outside the box by Steven Munn.

We started the second half as we finished the first, always on the front foot and always in control limiting Leatherhead to only a couple of half chances outside the box. Our hard work and patience paid off with a well executed headed goal from our left back Matthieu Guila ( Matty to us as we can’t pronounce his name!!).

During the game Munny (Steve Munn), had  two one on ones with the keeper unfortunately unable to convert either but was a thorn in the back 4’s side all game with his relentless runs across the box and well supported by his partner up top Keanne Lee.

Somehow, the referee found the need to add 8mins on at the end of the game and unfortunately we conceded the equaliser in the final minute of the game. All the boys were devastated having played so well, and after the game said that although really pleased with the result against probably one of the better teams we will play it actually felt like a loss.

This is my first season with the boys and to say I was proud of every single one of them is an understatement, exciting times lay ahead for me the boys and more importantly Whitstable Town Football Club.

This was a very very impressive performance by players that barely know each other.
