Whitstable Town Under 18’s 2 Margate 1
Kent Youth League (South)
Sunday 30th March 2014
This was another solid performance from our U18’s in a hard fought battle which gave the lads a deserved 3 points.
Margate had most of the possession for the first 15 minutes but it was Whitstable who took the lead with a neat side foot finish into the bottom corner from Harrison Smith. This clearly spurred Town on and allowed them to take control of the first half creating several opportunities with Sam Hudson, Tom Huston and Layka Holder coming close. Whitstable were also awarded a Penalty by the Referee which she then changed to a free-kick outside the box. A truly controversial decision but this was the first of many.
The second half started with Whitstable still on top creating some good opportunities but were finished wide of the target. The Referee again played her part in having a bad day at the office, not giving, what appeared, another definite penalty with the Margate Centre Half bundling over Town’s Midfielder, Harrison Smith in the area, to the dismay of the supporting crowd, and coaches. This did not deter Town’s players and justice was served soon after with Charlie Hallett finishing off a neat passing move to put Town 2 up.
Margate were then given some light, when they were awarded a Penalty, a particularly tough decision to go against Town, bearing in mind what had previously gone on, which they converted. Both sides played out the rest of the half but Town hung on to claim a well deserved victory.
