Ashford United Youth Under 18’s 1 Whitstable Town Under 18’s 2
Kent County Youth Cup 3rd Round
Sunday 1st December 2013
A highly charged cup encounter saw Towns U18’s win through to the next round. The first half saw all the goals scored with Whitstable breaking the deadlock with a neat finish in to the bottom corner from Zak Holman. Ashford soon levelled 10 minutes later with their right winger finishing off a well worked move. The hosts nearly took the lead when they were awarded a penalty, a poor back pass giving Towns keeper, Wes Miller, no chance with him fouling the Ashford striker. He was fortunate to just get a yellow card but made amends diving to his left and producing a good save. This rallied Whitstable allowing them to take control of the remainder of the half creating several chances one of which was converted by Lewis King with a looping header over the Ashford keeper from a great through ball from Elliot Bensted.
The second half was also full of action but largely for the wrong reasons. Both teams created chances with Ashford hitting the woodwork but with 2 minutes to go Whitstable’s Cameron Moore was dismissed for head butting the Ashford Centre back after the two had become involved in a tussle.
A battling performance from the boys, although soured at the end, sees them into the 4th round and completed what was a great day in the cups for the club with the first team also gaining a memorable victory.
