Whitstable Town 3 Redhill 1

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Saturday 3rd January 2015

Whitstable Town rewarded their army of supporters who gave up their morning to get the ground fit for football after a convincing 3-1 win against Redhill.

The early signs were good for the hosts as Ian Pulman found himself free in the penalty area in the first minute. He planted his shot wide of Redhill keeper Jindritrich Valatty and into the back of the net to give the hosts the lead. After three minutes Pulman had a shot blocked out by Vallaty. Redhill had to wait until the twelfth minutes for their first attempt when Joe Goldsmith turned and shot but Luke Watkins was on hand to save. The game then had a period as both teams came to terms with the conditions. On 34 minutes Conner French surged into the Town penalty area getting round Watkins but his shot was intercepted by Luke Doherty.   As the game moved from end to end, Kane Rowland had a shot for Whitstable but it went wide of the target.

Redhill did have one more chance two minutes before the break as Joe Bingham also just shot wide.

The second half started with the hosts on the attack. Tom Loynes received the ball on the right hand side of the penalty area but shot just over. Redhill were level on 48 minutes when the Town defence struggled to clear the ball and French was on hand to fire home. This seemed to spark some life into the hosts. Scott Heard ran into the Redhill penalty area and rifled a shot that was tipped over by Vokatty. Then on 55 minutes Luke Girt fed Pulman. He returned the pass but Girt’s attempt was saved by Vokatty. Town were now creating most of the chances. On 68 minutes Pulman had a shot saved again by the Redhill keeper. Town took the lead on 71 minutes when Luke Girt was brought down in the penalty area. Up stepped Pulman, who was suffering with a touch of flu, and the Town striker stroked the ball home. Redhill did have a chance to bring the scores level on 80 minutes when Jack Barton fired wide from the edge of the area. Town sealed the win with two minutes to go as Heard surged through to feed Jake Mackenzie who slid the ball past Vokatty.
