Sittingbourne 1 Whitstable Town 0
Ryman Football League Division One (South)
Tuesday 25th August 2015
A much improved performance by Whitstable on Tuesday unfortunately ended in a fifth successive league defeat at Sittingbourne.
The early exchanges saw the chances falling to the hosts and it was on four
minutes that Adam Williams had a header deflected wide. A minute later Sittingbourne were unlucky not to take the lead when Harry Smith crashed a shot against the upright. Town were creating chances as well and it was Ira Jackson who had the first attempt with a shot from the edge of the area which went just wide. Williams had two more opportunities for the hosts as he hit two long range efforts wide of the target. Kieron Campbell was looking dangerous for the visitors and on 25 minutes he surged into the penalty area and shot just wide. Craig
Thompson then had an opportunity deflected into the hands of Sittingbourne keeper nine minutes from the interval.
The early part of the second half saw the chances dry up as the game became a battle in midfield. On 53 minutes there was a melee in the Sittingbourne penalty area but the ball eventually ended in the arms of Molloy. Town were however applying more of the pressure but were caught on the break on 70 minutes when a mix up at the back saw Ollie Bankole grasp the opportunity and fire home to score the score that eventually proved the winner. Town continued to press for an equaliser. Nick Treadwell was denied on 75 minutes when he fired a shot that was blocked by the defenders and then Charlie Smith fired a shot that was saved well by Molloy. Despite the efforts Town could not find a way past the Sittingbourne defence.
The team now face the challenge of picking themselves up before Saturday’s cup tie at home to Walton Casuals.
