Whitstable Town 0 Dagenham & Redbridge 4
Pre Season Friendly
Saturday 29th June 2013
Whitstable Town opened their pre season friendlies with a fixture against a strong League Two team from Dagenham & Redbridge and it was the visitors whose finishing led to a comfortable four nil victory.
The game for long periods on a warm and sunny afternoon was entertaining with the first opportunity coming in the seventh minute when Whitstable’s new signing Mo Takaloo turned and shot but the ball hit the top of the
cross bar and went away. Three minutes later Dagenham had their first opportunity when Luke Howell attempted a shot but his effort was tame and did not cause any concerns for the home keeper Matt Lamprell. Lamprell was back in the action after 18 minutes when a shot from 20 yards by Jake Read was saved well by the Whitstable keeper.
Dagenham broke the deadlock after 22 minutes when Louis Dennis cut in and slotted the ball home. Lamprell again saved well when Josh Scott weaved his way through the Town defence only to shoot straight at the Town keeper. Whitstable defender George Benner then blocked well after 38 minutes as a shot came in from Abu Agogo. Then came Dagenham’s second as Peter Huggens was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area. Up stepped Medy Elito who fired the ball home. Town did have a chance on the stroke of half time when Jordan Wells had a shot but failed to
hit the target.
The second half brought about numerous changes as is normal in pre season games but the shape of the game did not alter with long periods of midfield stalemate with some chances being mainly created by the league team. After 50 minutes Sean Shields slashed a ball wide and then twenty minutes later Bradley Goldburg hit an attempt over the bar. Dagenham extended their lead after 75 minutes when Jack Conners put in a cross that was converted by Golding. Dagenham got their fourth with five minutes remaining when a Tyrone Sealey corner was glanced into the net by Ian Gale.
The crowd of 301 had enjoyed an entertaining game which was a useful workout for both teams.
