Micheal Everitt hooks home opener

Whitstable Town 3 Walton & Hersham 0

Ryman League Division One (South)

Saturday 15th December 2012

With the pitch only just fit following heavy rain, Whitstable turned in an excellent performance to comprehensively beat Walton & Hersham 3-0 at the Belmont on Saturday afternoon. Whitstable manager Nicky Southall had problems before kick off as Laurence Harvey pulled up with an injury in the pre match preparations and had to be replaced by Dan Ellet.

The enforced change did not seem to interfere with the home side as they were straight on the attack and as early as the 4th minute Sean Raggett sent a header wide from a corner. Town kept up the pressure and after nine minutes Danny Williams pulled the ball back to Micheal Everitt who shot wide.  Another minute on and the ever dangerous Daniel Hanshaw got free and sent a shot straight at Walton & Hersham keeper Kevin Weller. Town’s pressure had to turn into a goal and it did after eleven minutes when a short corner from Jake Beecroft was fed to Scott Heard who lobbed the ball in for Everitt to head home to put the hosts one up.

Buster Smissen scores second

Town continued to press and after 15 minutes Hanshaw had another opportunity which he blasted at Weller who did well to save. The visitors had their first attack after 19 minutes when Nick Shaw in the Town goal did well to block a shot and Beecroft cleared the ball away.  After 40 minutes Town found themselves two up as Hanshaw sent in a shot that Weller could only parry. The rebound came to Buster Smissen who shot home.  Before the half time whistle there was one scare for Whitstable as Harrold Odawetey sent a shot wide.  The whistle blew for half time with Whitstable deservedly having a two goal lead.

The second half started in the same way and after 49 minutes Raggett sent a header straight at the Walton keeper.  Thirteen minutes later a long range shot from Williams went over the cross bar. After 67 minutes Heard found himself free on the right but sent his shot wide. Walton then had a rare  opportunity after 70 minutes when Adriano Moraes had a long range shot deflected away for a corner.

Daniel Hanshaw gets the third

Hanshaw finally got the goal in the 73rd minute he deserved which sealed the points for Whitstable when Everitt floated a cross that found the Town striker who made no mistake to make it 3-0. There was one more opportunity for Town as substitute Damian Abel made space for himself and sent  in a rifle shot that was just tipped over the bar.  The final whistle came and 130 happy supporters celebrated an excellent victory.
