South Park 2 Whitstable Town 0

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Saturday 10th October 2015

Whitstable Town came away with nothing in a game where they really deserved at least a point in a 2-0 defeat at South Park on Saturday afternoon.

Town started the brighter and Ira Jackson was put through on three minutes but his effort was tipped away by South Park keeper James Wastell. South Park did not have to wait long before they had their first opportunity as Jack Stafford shot wide of the target. However Whitstable were now   on the front foot as the ever dangerous Kieron Campbell found Scott Heard but his attempt was deflected wide. This was followed quickly by a

Jackson shot that went straight at Wastell. On 20 minutes Ryan Smith looped a shot over the Whitstable bar. On 31 minutes Town had their best chance of the game as Jackson broke through one on one with Wastell but he waited a little too long and ball was deflected to Michael Hurcombe but he could not get a shot away. Campbell had two chances before the interval as he was firstly denied by Wastell and then three minutes before half time he headed wide.

South Park came out a little stronger in the second half as substitute Jack MacLeod looped a shot onto the cross bar. Then came the decisive moment of the game as an under hit back pass from Dan Keyte left Kieran Lavery one on one with Adam Highsted. The Town keeper brought him down and a penalty awarded. Highsted was also sent off and Sam Bewick replaced him in goal. Lavery got up and slotted the ball into the corner to give South Park the lead. However Town did not give up and pressed for an equaliser. On 54 minutes Campbell fed Jackson but the ball was spooned over the bar. A long range effort followed from Heard but on 78 minutes Kofi Quartey broke through against the run of play and slotted the ball  past Bewick. With five minutes to go Heard shot wide of the target. South Park should really have increased their lead a minute into injury time as Osita Isichei pulled the ball wide and Jackson had one more chance for Town as he cut in and shot wide.

When you are down the bottom you don’t seem to get the breaks and this was the case on Saturday afternoon.
