Whitstable Town 0 Canterbury City 0
Pre Season Fixture
Tuesday 28th July 2015
Whitstable who included a number of Under 21’s and trialists, put in a creditable performance in achieving a nil-nil draw against Canterbury City on Tuesday evening.
Aaron James who played his first game of pre season had the first opportunity on the far post but he headed high over the bar. Within a minute Canterbury had their first attempt as Whitstable keeper Ben Kitcherside blocked a shot from Chris Lewis. James was in the action again when he shot towards goal but the ball was blocked. On twelve minutes, the visitors can count themselves unlucky as Lewis shot against the underside of the cross bar and ball went harmlessly
away. Former Whitstable player, Steven Baines, twice had opportunities as firstly he had a header at the far post that was held well by Kitcherside and then he fired over from just inside the penalty area. Canterbury should have taken the lead on 35 minutes when another ex Whitstable player Dan Lawrence threaded a ball through to Dan Gonzales Bello who shot over when it appeared easier to score.
The second half whilst entertaining saw few chances. Dan Lawrence hit a shot from 25 yards that went just wide and then three minutes later Whitstable’s Josh Algar ran in and shot from distance curling his attempt wide. One more chance on 81 minutes saw a header from Canterbury’s Tom Peachey held well by substitute keeper Harry Brooks.
It was an encouraging performance from the players who are knocking on the door to the first team and it was good to see Aaron James in such good form at the back.
