Erith Town Reserves 2 Whitstable Town Reserves 0

Hurlimann Kent League Division One

3rd November 2012

The signs didn’t look good with Erith Town having no game and a new manager taking the reins. Also with  the entire committee of the “Dockers” on hand to watch the game, the appearance of several 1st teamers on the match sheet provided extremely strong opposition. It was the first time in three games that Whitstable were able to field a full strength team.

The game started evenly with both sides playing good passing football. The whole first half was even and it was no surprise that the scores after 45 minutes were level at 0-0 with Town having the majority of the chances.

Erith came out stronger in the second half and after 55 minutes they took the lead through sloppy defending. This provided impetus and within 5 minutes they had scored a second. Now for the first time this season Town had to chase the game. They had soem great chances but the Erith keeper made some great saves. The last 20 minutes Town were basically encamped in the Erith half but to no avail as Erith held onto their two goal lead.

Manager, Bob Reardon said after the game “Well the day had to come didn’t it. We knew we would not go through the season unbeaten but we are still in the top three. We are still learning and modelling ourselves on the big reserve sides and are still learning to play different systems. We have a great young squad but weren’t at the races today but we have played 12 games only conceding 7 goals and scoring 40 + goals which is a great effort for such a new team .
