On a dreadful stormy winters evening, around 25 very hardy souls took to The Belmont Club House to ‘Meet The Manager’, Nicky Southall whilst his Assistant Jason Lillis, U21 Development Manager Bob Reardon with U18 Coach Ian Grieves.
Having commenced the evening with the introductions, all present were encouraged by Chairman Gary Johnson to ask any matters on their mind of the Football Management or indeed himself.
Nicky was questioned during his 90 minutes on issues such as squad depth, the comings and goings of individual players and reasoning for their positioning, selection matters, current fixture backlog, his management team, his personal highs and lows, whilst praise and congratulations for the historic FA Trophy success was also celebrated; no question was left unanswered in a frank and sometimes seemingly critical debate that cannot failed to have informed those present.
Ian Grieves was encouraged by Nicky to give his views on the ‘18s’ and highlighted one or two prospects for the future, whilst Bob Reardon praised many of the U21s for gaining & pushing for more first team places as has been witnessed such is their progression despite limited competitive football.
The Chairman was asked three pertinent questions when supporters wished to debate the inconsistencies of Guernsey FC within the League, the fixture backlog and his commercial strategy; naturally Gary didn’t miss the opportunity to state how hard the finances are pressed with the current inclement weather meaning a lack of fixtures and perhaps the possibility of launching a ‘12th Man Scheme’.
As a small token of appreciation, each supporter was given a raffle ticket on entry and placed into the ‘Man of the Match’ bubbly draw, sponsored by The Lounge Restaurant & Bar (at Tankerton); whilst supporter Rob was the lucky recipient drawn out by Manager Nicky Southall he appears to be sharing this with his mate Matt (also pictured).
Johnson can also be seen presenting the Ryman League Team Performance of the Month to the Management Team of Nicky & his assistant Jason Lillis whilst supporters looked on.
Without fail, all present had & took the opportunity to discuss what was on their mind; sad though that the weather may have stopped many more from attending but Nicky & his team are always on hand for post match discussion win-lose or draw – a thoroughly enjoyable evening!
