Ramsgate 1 Whitstable Town 2
Ryman League Division One South
Whitstable provided a solid performance on Saturday snatching a late goal to earn three well deserved points. Justin Luchford had to reshuffle his pack before the game as Laurence Harvey was on the bench following a rib injury in midweek and Rob Gilman who was away ill. The early pressure came from the hosts and they were rewarded in the 7th minute when Curtis Robinson sent in a cross that found Warren Schultz. His header looped over Rob French into the back of the net. In the 31st minute a similar header again looped over French but luckily also went over the cross bar. Town did have a couple of opportunities in the first half including a dangerous cross from Damian Abel causing confusion in the Ramsgate penalty area but the ball got stuck in between ex Whitstable goal keeper Danny Twyman’s legs. It had been an even half which could have gone either way.
In the second half Town came quicker out of the blocks and began to put together some excellent moves. Five minutes after the restart Jake Beecroft moved forward and let loose a drive from 30 yards that bulleted into the corner of the net leaving Twyman just to watch the ball go past him.
This led to Whitstable taking control of the game creating a number of chances. On 56 minutes a pin point cross from Jack Parter found Stuart Vahid whose attempt went straight at the keeper. After 65 minutes Buster Smissen pulled back a cross but Jake MacKenzie could not find the net. Another cross from the ever dangerous Parter found Abel who shot straight at Twyman. There were calls for a penalty for shirt pulling but these were turned away by the referee. Then another chance after 85 minutes when a Scott Heard broke down the right which ended in a shot which was well saved by Twyman.
Finally Whitstable got the goal they deserved when a free kick was sent in. The ball was saved by Twyman but Dane Luchford was there to tap the ball into the net for the winner. An excellent result for Whitstable which takes them up to 10th in the table. The only sour note was home defender Joe Kennett who was carried off at the end of the game with a nasty leg injury.
Team: French, Heard, Parter, Everitt, Hare, MacKenzie (Morrish 70mins), Southall, Beecroft, Vahid (Smissen 61 mins), Abel (Hickman 89 mins) Luchford.
