It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of former manager Peter Merritt- Peter was first team manager of the Town up until the end of the 92/93 season. We send our condolences to his family and friends.
Our president Joe Brownett wrote
“It was with deep regret that I learnt of the passing of our great friend Peter Merritt. We extend our deepest sympathies to Gill his wife and his family. Peter was a true Whitstable Town stalwart as a player, management and team manager. I was fortunate to be asked by Peter to join the club in the mid eighties and we soon built a strong relationship as Manager and Chairman.
Peter loved to be involved with his players and he built up some good sides with his second in command, Malcolm Ainsley. He built a reputation as always being available to discuss his team selection with anybody who had questions to ask.
He kept Whitstable Town amongst the best in the league and it was not a rare sight to see Peter on the club tractor getting the pitch ready. Peter was a true football man and le loved to talk for hours about the game.
We will indeed miss him on match days and will look back with affection to the days Peter spent at the helm of the club. ”
The funeral will be held at Barham Crematorium on Thursday 5th of September at 2.40pm
