Ramsgate 2 Whitstable Town 3
Ryman Football League Division One (South)
Wednesday 14th October 2015
Whitstable Town gave a powerful performance on Wednesday evening as they came twice from behind to win 3-2 to gain sweat revenge at Ramsgate.
Ramsgate started the better as Tom Loynes had a long range shot on two minutes which was easily saved by Adam Highsted. After four minutes the Rams went ahead as Nick Humphrey hooked the ball into the corner of the net. However that lead was to last only three minutes as Ira Jackson
blasted a rifled shot that went to the right of Ramsgate keeper Luke Watkins and into the net. Peter Smith was to have another opportunity for the hosts but his attempt went straight into the arms of Highsted. On ten minutes Tom Loynes coming from the right blasted in a shot into the bottom corner of the net to allow Ramsgate to regain the lead. However Town did not lay down and die as Kieron Campbell beat Watkins to the ball but his toe poke rolled just wide. A couple of efforts then came for the hosts as Joe Taylor hooked the ball very wide and then Peter Smith repeated that on 27 minutes. On 33 minutes Joe Kane at the near post put the ball just wide. However Town were slowly getting back into the game as Jackson had a shot well saved by Watkins. Then came the four minutes that was to eventually decide the game. Firstly when Jackson got on the end of a Scott Heard through ball and forced the ball home. Within four minutes Sam Bewick swung a dangerous free-kick which fell for Heard who drilled home. One more chance for Town on half time as Charlie Smith had a shot well saved by Watkins.
The second half was end to end with the early chances coming from the visitors. On 49 minutes Charlie Smith had a shot blocked and Watkins saved well from Heard who got onto the rebound. Smith then broke through and Watkins again on hand to deflect over. Ramsgate pressed for an equaliser
as first Luke Wheatley had a header saved by Highsted and then the Town keeper did well to save from Kane. On 71 minutes Jackson weaved his way through the Ramsgate defence and found himself one on one with former Whitstable keeper Watkins who spread himself well to block. Mitchell Dickensen had the next chance as he had a shot deflected wide. Town withstood some late pressure as Ramsgate attacked but the defence was dogged and resolute and prevented any chance of an equaliser. The final whistle was welcomed with great relief by the travelling support who saw their side’s first away points of the season and continue their unbeaten record Ryman League record at Southwood Road.
If Town can continue this excellent form then a rise up the table must be on the cards.
