The early round draws for the FA cup competitions were published today.
The details as they affect Whitstable Town are shown below.
The Emirates FA Cup
Extra Preliminary Round Saturday 11 August (winners receive £2,250, losers receive £750)
Deal Town v Whitstable Town
Preliminary Round Saturday 25 August (winners receive £2,890, losers receive £960)
Sutton Common Rovers or CB Hounslow United v Deal Town or Whitstable Town
Due to the restructuring of The FA National League System affecting Steps 3 and 4, this season there are 18 Step 4 clubs that are not exempt to the Preliminary Round and therefore enter the competition in the Extra Preliminary Round. These clubs are the 18 lowest ranked newly promoted Step 4 clubs based on their points per game from the 2017-2018 season. Whitstable Town are in this category, so will start their season with a game in this competition.
The Buildbase FA Trophy
Extra Preliminary Round Saturday 29 September (winners receive £2,000)
Whitstable Town received a bye
Preliminary Round Saturday 13 October (winners receive £3,000)
Bedfont Sports v Whitstable Town
Whitstable Town return to the FA Trophy following promotion to the Bostik League, after having competed in the FA Vase for the past two seasons.
Whitstable played FA Cup opponents Deal Town three times last season, twice in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division and also in the Challenge Cup quarter final. Whitstable won two of the games, but lost the early league fixture at Deal, who eventually finished in 7th place in the table.
The winners of the Deal v Whitstable tie will face an away trip to a Combined Counties Premier Division team, either Sutton Common Rovers, who finished last season in 3rd place or CB Hounslow United, who finished 9th. Sutton Common Rovers play their matches on the artificial pitch at the Knights Community Stadium, Gander Green Lane, the home of Sutton United.
An Extra Preliminary Round was added to the FA Trophy this season, but Whitstable were not drawn to play in this, so will start in the Preliminary Round with a trip to Bedfont Sports, close to Heathrow Airport. They finished 2nd in the Combined Counties League last season and like Whitstable have been promoted to the Bostik League, but into the South Central Division.
