Whitstable Town Under 21’s 3 Lewes Under 21s 5
Ryman Under 21 League (South)
Thursday 30th October 2014
The Under 21s went down 5-3 in an entertaining fixture against Lewes at the Belmont on Thursday evening.
Whitstable started the stronger and were soon ahead as Tino Makura sent in a cross that was met by Matty Guila who slid the ball into the net. They continued to press but Lewes always looked dangerous and were level on 25 minutes. However, Town were to regain the lead seven minutes later when Rene Rivera fed Josh Algar at the far post and the midfielder stroked the ball into the back of the net. The lead was only to last for three minutes as Lewes got an equaliser. On the stroke of half time Lewes took the lead for the first time to go in 3-2 ahead.
The second half started in the same open pattern as the first and Town were level on 50 minutes when an Andy McGinty corner found Guila who got his second. Town were denied by a couple of great saves from Lewes keeper, Ryan Burbridge. Lewes regained the lead on 77 minutes before the best goal of the evening right on time when a free kick hit the underside of the bar and over the line.
It had been an enjoyable fixture with a lot of creativity but also some fragile defending.
