It is with regret that the Club announce that the aforementioned fixture has been cancelled; whilst it is accepted that this much looked forward to pre-season fixture (first played as a mark of respect and in recognition to the much loved club stalwart Bruce Smith) is unusual given both teams now play competitively in the same division it is vastly disappointing and some may consider disrespectful to Bruce himself.

The date of the fixture was first agreed following the request of Herne Bay FC back in March, it is therefore extremely disappointing to learn earlier this week that Herne Bay FC have arranged another PSF for the same day as that originally planned.

Chairman Gary Johnson contacted his Bay counterpart Bill Dordoy who said: the fixture had now run its path and that the ‘novelty factor had worn off, with ill-discipline and 8 sendings off in recent games, together with the clubs now playing in the same division and being drawn against each other in cup competitions……it’s unusual to play each other in pre-season……it wasn’t as much an issue when both clubs played in different leagues….but we have now agreed to play Tilbury…..’

The Club will now seek another fixture to replace this and for which Bruce Smith will once more be recognized and appreciated for his loyalty and commitment which has spanned some 50yrs.
