Three Bridges 3 Whitstable Town 0
Ryman Football League Division One (South)
Saturday 22nd August 2015
Whitstable’s woeful start to the season continued as Three Bridges cruised to a three-nil win on Saturday.
All the chances in the first half came for the hosts. Bridges were ahead as early as the eighth minute as poor defending from the defence left Ollie Gray handling on the line. Despite claims that the ball had already crossed the line, the referee pointed to the spot. Gray was shown a red
card and up stepped Ben Godfrey who fired into the corner. Bridges continued to create the chances and on 18 minutes Allan Tait’s shot was held by Adam Highsted. The Town keeper was on hand again after 23 minutes as he stopped a curling shot by Tony Garrod. Garrod was in the action again as Town lost the ball in defence but the ball went wide. They deservedly increased their ead when a quickly taken free kick left the Town defence static and Garrod was left on his own to slot the ball passed Highsted. On 34 minutes Tait fired wide.
The second half started in the same vein and a long range shot from Jamie Crellin went over the bar.
Highsted had to be at his best as Garrod broke free and the Town keeper did well to tip over the bar. Finally in the 73 minutes Sam Callander had the first and only attempt for the visitors but his shot went high over the bar. Bridges continued to press forward as Lee Carney saw Highsted off his line. The lob went over the Town keeper but cleared the bar as well. John Lansdale was next to force his way through the Town defence but finding himself one on one with Highsted, he shot wide. However Bridges were to rub salt in Town’s wounds a minute into injury time as Mark Pulling fired home at the far post following a cross.
It was a grim afternoon as Whitstable failed to gain their first points of the season.
