Molesey 2 Whitstable Town 0
Ryman Football League Division One (South)
Saturday 6th February 2016
Whitstable again came away from a game pointless as they conceded two second half goals in a 2-0 defeat at Molesey on Saturday afternoon.
However it was Town who started the brighter of the two sides as within the first minute Ricardo Thompson had a shot blocked by Molesey keeper Liam Allen. Another chance after seven minutes saw Dean Grant fire wide. Molesey had to wait until eleven minutes when Town keeper Dan Eason tipped the ball over from a shot by James McShane. Grant had a golden
opportunity to give Town lead as he broke through but waited too long to get his shot away and Allen was able to block. Allen was then on hand to tip over a Wayne Wilson free kick on 23 minutes. Dan Eason was then to deny the hosts as he also tipped over a shot this time by Ato Okai. Eason was on hand again to save from Staf Palmer and then with three minutes to half time McShane shot wide.
The Town defence seemed to have stayed in the dressing room as Molesey took the lead within seconds of the restart. Palmer was on hand to put a header from a cross past Eason. Wilson then did have an opportunity for Whitstable as he shot over the bar. The major threats were now coming exclusively for Molesey. On 68 minutes Palmer headed wide on the far post and then McShane forced a save from Eason. With ten minutes to go Molesey sealed the points as Palmer broke free from the half way line, pressed forward and slotted the ball past Eason. The remainder of the game saw few chances.
Town will need a dramatic change in fortune to stand any chance of surviving the dreaded drop.
