Horsham 0 Whitstable Town 2
Ryman Football League Division One (South)
Saturday 14th March 2015
Whitstable Town piled on the pressure on relegation threatened Horsham in what was eventually a comfortable two nil win at Gorings Mead on Saturday afternoon.
However it was the home side who had the first opportunity in the first minute as Trevor McCreadie sent a tame shot that was easily collected by Town keeper Luke Watkins. Whitstable had to wait until the eighth minute for their first attempt when Tom Loynes hooked a shot straight at Horsham keeper Gareth WIlliams. Kane Rowland was next to have a shot on 12
minutes when his effort did not test Williams. However Williams was tested a minute later when he was at full stretch to save well from Luke Girt. Whitstable continued to create the majority of the chances as a Loynes cross found Kane Rowland on 35 minutes but his effort went wide. Ian Pulman then had a chance that he sent just wide from a very tight angle five minutes before the interval and three minutes later a Pulman corner found Nick Treadwell who headed wide. There was one more chance for the hosts on 44 minutes when a George Branford free kick found Tony Nwachukwu who scooped the ball over the bar.
The second half started slowly but on 53 minutes Loynes broke free from the left but fired just wide and then within two minutes a Pulman cross was headed over by Luke Doherty.
McCreadie had a shot at the other end but it didn’t really test Watkins. He then scooped the ball over the Town bar after 63 minutes. The deadlock was broken on 65 minutes when an attempted clearance was intercepted by Loynes and with the keeper beaten the Town winger walked the ball into an empty net. Within nine minutes Whitstable sealed the game when Rowland got the ball in the penalty area and unselfishly squared the ball to Pulman who placed the ball past Williams to make the score 2-0. The game was just about over at this stage and there was little threat from Horsham as it was left to Joe Kane to have the last chance of the game in injury time as he rifled a shot over the bar.
It was a useful three points and Town continue to challenge for a play-off place.
