It was a disappointing afternoon for Whitstable Town as they tamely went down 2-0 at Walton & Hersham on Saturday afternoon.

The game was slow to really get going and the first opportunity did not come until a quarter of an hour was gone when Dominic Ogun had a shot which was deflected well over the bar. Four minutes later Whitstable keeper Luke Watkins was forced into a great save as

Anthony Oaks curled a free kick towards the top corner. Town had to wait until the 29th minute to have their first chance when Peter Wedgeworth hooked in a cross which was a tad too far from Ian Pulman who pulled his shot over the bar. Town had another attempt five minutes later when debutant Darren Marsden sent in a corner which was met by Joe Kennett who headed wide.  Walton & Hersham then scored the two goals which eventually decided the game when firstly on 42 minutes Watkins clipped the heal of a home striker when the ball seemed to be going out. The referee had no choice but to point to the spot and up stepped  Taome Hemmings who sent Watkins the wrong way. On the stroke of half time Andrew Mensah pounced on some hesitation in the Town defence and fired home to give the hosts a two goal interval lead.

The second half started with the hosts looking the brighter. On 48 minutes a Hemmings free kick found Vernon Francis who headed over.  On 68 minutes Wedgeworth was on hand to clear the ball off the Town line and it wasn’t until 72 minutes that Nick Treadwell who worked tirelessly all afternoon had the first attempt of the half met a 6 New signing Darren Marsden takes a short cornercross but headed over. Town did not seriously challenge again although they had a strong penalty turned down when Tom Loynes was brought down in the 73rd minute. From the breakaway Mensah shot wide. A minute later Gareth Chendlik hit a shot from the edge of the area just wide. Two Watkins saves in injury time kept the score down as he prevented both Dylan Cascoe and Matt Reece from adding to the score line.

It was a poor afternoon for the Town who remain in twelfth position.
