Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Saturday 2nd March 2013

Whitstable Town collapsed to a five nil drubbing on Saturday as they allowed Leatherhead to dominate this Ryman League Division One (South) game.

Leatherhead were in charge from the very start and after 13 minutes had their  first opportunity as a speculative shot Ryan Flack went wide of the target. Then a minute late the Tanners took the lead when Allan Tait carved through the Whitstable defence to send a shot past Dean Ruddy. After 28 minutes Flack had another chance which was blocked by Ruddy.  Whitstable had to wait until the 33rd minute when a

long range shot from Tom Brunt went to wide. Two minutes later Micheal Everitt had a shot on the turn that went wide.  Leatherhead were back on the attack and after 37 minutes Elliott Thompson put in a cross that was turned wide by Mark Simmons.  Tait broke free again five minutes before half time but his shot was deflected by the legs of Ruddy and the ball was cleared away. At half time Whitstable could consider themselves to be lucky to be only one down.

The hosts had their brightest spell at the start of the second half. A minute in and Scott Heard had a shot come cross that had to be tipped over by Andrew Young in the Leatherhead goal. Six minutes later Micheal Everitt had a shot from a cross by Heard but sent his shot over the bar. Then on the break in the 57th minute Tommy Hutchings broke free and slotted home to take the fight out of

Whitstable. Then six minutes later Tait got his second when he found himself free lobbing over Ruddy.  After 65 minutes Buster Smissen did have a header that went over the bar. Leatherhead continued to tear through a very poor Whitstable defence and after 77 minutes Thompson found the target from 25 yards. Tait then poured more salt into the Town’s wounds when he slotted home his third and Leatherhead’s fifth.

It is back to the drawing board for Whitstable manager  Nicky Southall as Leatherhead continue to challenge for a play-off place.
