Herne Bay Under 18’s 1 Whitstable Town Under 18’s 3
Sunday 23rd August 2015
On a lovely sunny Sunday morning at Winchs Field, Town’s Under 18s played their first pre- season game of the season and got off to a winning start by beating a strong Herne Bay side 3-1. It was Town that bossed this one right from the start and a good passage of play involving twelve passes created the first chance after just three minutes when Keegan Wickham saw his shot curled inches wide of the far post from twenty yards. Town continued to dominate the midfield and deservedly took the lead after seven minutes when Jordan Bartlett and Bradley Dale combined well for Bartlett to place his shot past the Herne Bay keeper from 18 yards to make it 1-0.
Straight from the kick off Town pressed and won the ball back in midfield and with a good passage of possession football which resulted in Wickham putting Brad Prior through on goal for only the defender to bring him down on the edge of the box. Bartlett took the resulting free kick which was well saved by the Herne Bay keeper but Dale was on hand to tap home from close range to make it 2-0. Herne bay got a goal back against the run of play but Town held on till the break.
Town dominated the second half and played some great attacking football, Khaled Alshamri found himself one on one with the keeper four times and was foiled each time. Jay Beasley had an effort inches wide and Wickham hit a free kick just over the bar. Town had to wait until the 75th minute to make the game safe when a great in swinging corner from Ted Allen was met at the far post by Joe Remington who headed into the roof of the net.
This was a great performance from Town which was very encouraging.
