Whitstable Town’s excellent run came to an end as they lost 1-0 to Chipstead at the Belmont on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors started the more positive of the two sides and after five minutes the Whitstable defence were in a muddle but keeper Watkins

was on hand to stop the ball. A minute later Derek Tieku had a shot that was deflected wide for a corner. Ian Pulman had the first effort for Town in the tenth minute when he moved in from the left but sent a shot straight at Chipstead goal keeper Milan Stojsavljevic. The visitors were to break the deadlock on 21 minutes when Whitstable could not get the ball away and the ball fell to Sam Preddi who fired home. Chipstead maintained the pressure as Nick Treadwell intercepted the ball but as he tried to clear but itl went goal wards and Watkins had to be at his best to palm the ball around the post. On 26 minutes Tieku was back in the action when he hooked the ball over the bar. Town had an opportunity on 35 minutes when Kane Rowland got on the end of a cross but fired over when it looked easier to hit the target.

Stojsavljevic. Two minutes later Treadwell connected with a Rowland cross but the ball looped into the Chipstead keeper’s hands. On 54 minutes Tieku had another attempt at the other end but his shot did not test Watkins. Two minutes later Whitstable’s Tom Loynes shot at Stojsavljevic who easily collected the ball. On 81 minutes Peter Wedgeworth provided Whitstable’s best effort. His shot from just outside the area rattled the top of the cross bar and away for a goal kick. On 83 minutes Chipstead nearly increased their lead when Bob Webbe hit a dipping shot that went just over the bar.  Whitstable pushed for an equaliser but could not create the chance that would bear fruit and the unbeaten run was over.

Chipstead, for the second time this season had ended a Whitstable unbeaten run as they completed the double over the Oystermen.
