All the hard work of everybody to get the game on was rewarded as Whitstable thumped Worthing four- nil in Saturday afternoon’s game at the Belmont. Worthing created the first opportunity after 2 minutes when Jamie Brotherton put Matt Daniel through but Nick Shaw in the Town goal saved well.  After 4 minutes Whitstable had a chance when Sean Raggett had a shot well saved. The ball rebounded to Buster Smissen whose shot was well blocked. Seconds later Whitstable went in front when Worthing defender Tom Stilwell got the last touch as the ball went across the penalty area to creep in the corner of the net for an own goal.

James Morrish drives home second goal

After 14 minutes after a weaving run through the visitors defence Smissen shot wide.  Worthing continued to have opportunities and after 19 minutes Brotherton got on the end of a cross and fired just over.  Three minutes later Town striker, Raggett hit a fine cross to Jake MacKenzie who hit the bar. Then after 25 minutes another Worthing attack ended with a fine save from man of the match Shaw in the Town goal when he saved a shot from Nat Hubert.  The game continued to flow from end to end on a muddy surface and after 34 minutes a shot from Worthing’s Scott Kirkwood was blocked. Two minutes later at the other end Micheal Everitt had a header that went wide. Then on the stroke of half time a volley from Town captain James Morrish increased the Oysterman’s lead as he volleyed a loose ball firmly past goalkeeper Josh James.

The early part of the second half was really a midfield battle. Hubert did hit a shot for the visitors well over the bar. Then after 67 minutes Worthing’s  Brotherton  had a shot well blocked by the Town defence and then from the break Town sealed the game as Smissen found himself free and his shot rolled past  James to seal the victory for the hosts.  After 75 minutes Worthing striker had a shot that hit the cross bar and the ball was cleared away.  Then finally in the last minute Town completed the victory as Raggett broke free and sent a shot that was fired into the corner of the net to ensure Town obtained the three points to take them further away from the relegation zone.
