Whitstable Town fought back from two early setbacks to gain a hard earned point at home to Whyteleafe in bad tempered game on Saturday.

Town were to suffer the first setback  after only three minutes when Sam Clayton let loose a shot, from the edge of the area, that gave Town keeper Luke Watkins no chance. Further problems for Whitstable as only three minutes later their defence failed to clear the ball and Roscoe Dsane was on hand to fire home. Only a minute later Scott Heard had another opportunity for Whitstable as he turned and shot but the ball was blocked by the

Whyteleafe defence. On twelve minutes Clayton was in the action again when from the left hand side he shot wide.  The hosts got back into the game after 18 minutes when Heard paused and then fired home a dipping shot from 25 yards. On 24 minutes, Kane Rowland had a chance to bring the scores level when he hit a long distance attempt just wide of the target. The visitors had the best of the remaining chances in the half as on 32 minutes Dsane shot straight at Watkins. The Town keeper had to be at his best when Jason Henry broke through but as he tried to round Watkins he was able to get his hand to the ball and clear away.  Clayton had another attempt two minutes before the break but he shot wide.  Whitstable’s Ian Pulman broke through in the penalty area but couldn’t quite get his shot away and the chance was gone.

Town started the second half with more purpose and were level within three minutes of the restart. Aaron James managed to put a foot out and redirect the ball past Whyteleafe keeper Sheikh Seesay and Tom Loynes finished it off tapping the ball over the line. Whyteleafe were then reduced to ten men when Sol Patterson-Bohner was sent off for a

second yellow card. This seemed to  spark life into Whitstable and on 62 minutes Tom Loynes tried to lob the ball over Sessay but the ball was cleared away into the path of Pulman who was denied by a good save by Seesay.  On 63 minutes the visitors were down to nine men when Dylan Marchant was sent to the changing rooms for a second yellow card.  Whitstable continued to attack Loynes broke free but his shot was deflected wide and then on 76 minutes Heard went round Seesay but shot into the side netting. Rowland had a couple of chances towards the end where he firstly hit a shot just wide and then had an attempt that went straight at Seesay.  Whyteleafe defended out the last ten minutes to hold on for the draw but not before they were reduced to eight men when Bentley Graham was given a red card.

Both sides now sit on the edge of the play off zone after the second draw between this season.
