Hythe Town 2 Whitstable Town 0
Ryman League Division One (South)
Saturday 3rd October 2012
This was a disappointing afternoon when two goals from James “Ratty” Everitt sealed the points for Hythe. Everitt, who is the brother of our own Micheal Everitt had only just signed for the hosts from their local neighbours, Folkestone Invicta. The early exchanges showed some opportunities for Whitstable with firstly a cross from Jake Beecroft which nearly found Buster Smissen bearing in on goal in the 12th minute. Another opportunity came in the 19thminute when Smissen sent the ball just over the bar. The next period of play did not inspire the large crowd of 314 hardy souls. Whitstable did have a good
shout for a penalty kick in the 35th minute but that was turned away by the referee.
Hythe had a chance in the 41st minute when a Craig Cloke cross come shot looped over Robert French but also went over the cross bar. However James Everitt was not to be denied when he sent in a shot on the stroke of half time. The ball took a deflection and looped over French to put Hythe ahead. To be honest nil-nil would have been a fairer reflection of the uninspiring first half.
Hythe started the second half in a far more positive frame of mind. Striker Craig Thompson sent a header over the bar. Whitstable then had a bright spell when they could have drawn level when following a Dane Luchford run the ball was put across the goal mouth and despite a number of attempts they were unable to find the back of the net. French was then called to make a good save from Jake Hobbs but finally in the 66th minute James Everitt was to get his second when he got on the end of a Hobbs free kick to make the game safe for Hythe. The rest of the game returned to the script with few chances for either side. Hythe ran out two nil winners after this dour game.
