The early exchanges were fairly even as Sittingbourne had the first attempt after three minutes when Miles Cornwall fired over the bar. Town’s first attack

after seven minutes resulted in them taking the lead when a Peter Wedgeworth cross found Joe Kane who headed home from close range for his first goal since his return from Lordswood. Most of the chances were still coming at the other end as Ollie Bankhole hit a long range shot weakly wide after 14 minutes. There were few chances then until the 36th minute when Cornwall had  a snap shot from inside the penalty that went over the bar. Tom Loynes had a chance for Whitstable after 43 minutes when he got on the end of a Kane Rowland cross but the ball went wide. On the stroke of half time the visitors did have one opportunity to equalise when Bankole shot wide.

Whitstable started more positively in the second half and after 60 seconds of the half Ian Pulman pulled the ball back from the by line only for Rowland to spoon the ball over the bar. Whitstable continued to apply the pressure as after 49 minutes a melee in the Sittingbourne box saw both Rowland and Pulman have attempts but keeper Adam Molloy held on to the ball. However immediately Scott Heard shot from just outside the area which Molloy spilled only for Rowland to jump on the chance to double Town’s lead.  Another mistake by the Molloy three minutes later saw Whitstable increase their lead when a Wedgeworth

free kick was also spilled and again Rowland was waiting to fire home. On 56 minutes a flick on by ex Whitstable defender  George Crimmen was cleared away by Town keeper Luke Watkins. Town continued to press and on 62 minutes Pulman stole the ball and had a shot deflected over the bar. Pulman was not to be denied and he struck the fourth Whitstable goal after 66 minutes when he weaved through the Sittingbourne defence and slotted the ball home guaranteeing the points for the hosts. On 84 minutes, Sittingbourne nearly got one back when Harry Smith shot across the face of the goal only for Watkins to palm the ball away. As the game went into injury time Whitstable could have increased their lead when Heard pulled the ball back only for Josh Donnelly to fire over the bar. There was a last gasp consolation for Sittingbourne as Smith fired home from inside the penalty to narrow the deficit.

Whitstable took away three deserved points in their continuing challenge for the play-off places.
