Whitstable Town returned from Ramsgate with three deserved points on New Year’s Day as they eventually won 3-1 after a fright near the end.

With a strong wind blowing across the ground the first attempt game from Town as after two minutes  Scott Heard cut in and shot over. Ramsgate’s first opportunity came on seven minutes when Tom Chapman scuffed a shot from the edge of the area wide of the target. Town were ahead on eleven minutes when Heard skilfully pulled the ball back from the left and Kane Rowland was on home to fire home through a crowd of players. Ramsgate nearly got back in the game two minutes later when Aaron Quain had a long range shot deflected wide. Within 60 seconds the hosts had another chance as James Sherman at the far post headed wide. However Town continued to

create chances and ex Whitstable keeper Nick Shaw made a double save from firstly Ian Pulman and then Tom Loynes to deny the visitors from increasing their lead. Shaw was on hand again six minutes before the interval when Loynes forced another save.

Whitstable started the second half as the more positive team. Jake Mackenzie created the first chance of the half after 50 minutes when he crossed into the penalty area but Tom Hickman was on hand to scramble the ball away from two advancing Town strikers.  Town increased their lead two minutes later when Ian Pulman found himself in the penalty area and managed to slot the ball past Shaw. On 55 minutes Pulman sent in a ball that Luke Doherty headed wide and then Pulman himself had a shot saved by Shaw on 56 minutes. On 65 minutes there was scare in the Whitstable penalty area but Luke Watkins was on hand to save. On 76 minutes Loynes had a volley that went wide and then with ten minutes to go drilled a shot from long range missing the target by a whisker as it brushed the top of the cross bar. A minute later came the fright as against the run of the play

Sherman headed over Watkins to bring the Rams back into the game.  Despite this set back Town continued to create chances and Luke Girt was next to see an attempt go over  the bar. The game was finally sealed with a minute left of normal time when following confusion in the Ramsgate defence the ball came out to Loynes, who deftly lobbed the ball over Shaw into the empty net.

An excellent afternoon’s work for the Town as they move up to eighth place in the table.
