Richard Sinden: joining as 1st Team Player/Coach.

I have today finally added the final piece to my Management Team ready for the new season. With Sam stepping down due to outside commitments, Richard and I were looking to recruit someone else to help us with the coaching side and also give fresh ideas and look at the game differently for us. As everybody is aware, I am not a “name” in football with regards to my playing days, but I was fortunate to be recruited as a Manager a few years ago, after spending alot of time as an Assistant Manager and  coaching and Managing reserve teams. I was given a “chance”, and to Faversham I have to be thankful of that. To that end, I am very conscious about being given a chance in football Management and I learn more and more each season and I think its important to remember that when recruiting and looking for someone who also wants a chance.

Therefore, I can announce today that Richard Sinden will be joining my team as 1st Team Player/Coach. Richard has won the Kent League many times, including with me, and has also won the Golden Boot many times not just for club but also the League. A few eyebrows were raised when I brought him into Faversham as we already had a decent strickforce, but I knew from working with him at Hythe and his previous clubs that his goals would come in handy. I remember his debut, we played FA Cup away against Ryman one side Merstham, we were 2-0 down with 15 to go and I put him on. He scored two in 5 minutes and took them to a replay. He scored again in the replay but nearly cost us the tie when he missed a pen in the shoot out ! but fortunately we won that day, and all the eyebrows were back in position after 3 goals in 20 minutes of playing time !

Richard has been around a long time and those that know him will know how professional he is. Football is important to him and his preparation is second to none. Every player I have had before has spoken highly of him and he is very well respected in the game. He is very intelligent (you owe me Sinders for that one!), and has a good knowledge of the game. He has worked with many managers over the years and so has alot of fresh ideas as well. He is keen to Manage at somepoint so will be looking to do his badges to kick on. He will also do the pre-season as we will use him as back up where necessary and will play a few reserve games to keep his fitness levels up. He appreciates he cant play as much anymore, but don’t be surprised if he pops up from the bench from time to time with a few goals, as he is certainly a natural goalscorer.

In addition to his appointment, please join me on congratulating him and his wife, on the birth of their third child Cruz Sinden, who was born on Fathers Day a couple of days ago. Once they have all settled, Richard will be on board and part of this very exciting season ahead.

Welcome Sinders
