Whitstable Town Reserves 5 Margate Reserves 0
Kent Intermediate Cup 2nd Round
Tuesday 5th February 2013
Well it finally had to happen after around about 12 weeks without a game, the reserve team finally managed to play a game of football . With almost a full squad chomping at the bit to play a match, it was either going to go one way or the other. The game started with a fairly evenly matched ten minutes with both teams trying desperately to get passing up to speed. It then basically changed for most of the game , with the Town defence, closing down and breaking up all of Margate’s attacks which were very few and far between,
The first goal for town was very well worked on the left and was finished off with a great strike in the top corner. Shortly after Town scored again, a very one sided first half finished 2-0.
The second half carried on with the Town defence cancelling out any attack from Margate, with the right and left back basically playing as wingers. The constant attacks continued and Whitstable scored again. With players looking tired Whitstable made all three changes from the bench and continued to go looking for more goals. Two more goals arrived around the 65th and 70th minute. Margate did have a five minute spell near the end of the game, but nothing came from these attacks despite hitting the post right on the final whistle.
Whitstable have a full squad to choose from on Saturday when they entertain Holmesdale in the Kent League.
Scorers: Ellett, OG, Ralph 2, Marques
omments from the bench: It was great to get back playing and the lads were absolutely flying. We are still near the top with a lot of games in hand. We have a difficult game on Saturday against Holmesdale ,who are a decent outfit. Tonight’s result was a good run out and dusted off a lot of cobwebs.
