RESERVES GO OUT OF INTERMEDIATE CUP

Hollands & Blair Reserves 2 Whitstable Town Reserves 1

Kent Intermediate Cup Semi Final

Saturday 30th March 2013

On a very cold afternoon , Whitstable Town Reserves had the short trip to Medway  to play Hollands & Blair Reserves in the Kent Intermediate Cup Semi Final. The hosts had already beaten three Kent League Division 1 sides in the competition to date.

The game started with Town’s passing going astray and the control not being up to scratch. (perhaps someone needed to tell them this was a semi final). With things just not clicking for the away side, the first twenty minutes were to be honest a shambles. With 25 minutes gone a shot travelled across the Town box and looked to be going out for a corner but it was tapped into the net, by a Blair player who simply gambled that his team mate would not hit the target. This still did not shake up Town and on 35 minutes a cross wide from the right sailed over the town goalie and dropped into the corner of the net.  The rest of the half was spent in Blair’s half with Whitstable bombarding their goal but with no luck.

The second half commenced with Town making two substitutions and the game changed almost immediately. It was basically probably the most one sided half that the Reds have been involved in all season with Blair putting  up to six players behind the ball, Town then scored a superb goal , when James Simmons beat his man and put his shot in the corner of the net. This basically signalled an onslaught for the last twenty minutes but It just would not fall for Town, hitting defenders on the back  and the goalkeeper falling on everything.

Town could not get the equaliser and the game ended with the hosts going through to the final.

The Whitstable management team commented that “To  lose the game today is a massive blow to the whole squad. This was simply a game that was well within our reach. We have a couple of lads that perhaps need a rest , things might be getting on top of them and  there are a few players heads that are being turned by being offered Ryman football next  season. We will remove them from the firing line , for a game or so as, we have a few lads back from university  this week and they are going straight into the squad for Tuesday night’s massive game against a very talented Herne Bay side. We will not get too down hearted as this is only the second defeat in the league and cup all season. Good luck to Hollands & Blair in the final.
