Horsham 3 Whitstable Town 1

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Saturday 22nd February 2014

Saturday’s game at Horsham is one that I think all Whitstable Supporters will want to forget as they  tamely went down three-one.

All the early exchanges and chances fell to the hosts with the first coming as early as the first minute when Tony Nwachukwu fired wide whilst under pressure from Laurence Harvey. Five minutes later Town keeper Matt Byott saved from a header from Glen Woodburn. Then two minutes later Ross Morley shot but the ball was headed away by Harvey. The

Horsham attacks continued in waives and on twelve minutes a lay off by Junior Kaffo found Jamie Cade who fired wide. Whitstable had to wait until when Steve Hafner sent a free kick over the bar from the edge of the area on 18 minutes and then Ashley Baverstock shot over the bar after 22 minutes. Following these couple of attacks, Horsham continued with the initiative. Kaffo sent a curling shot well wide of the target after 26 minutes and then a minute later Ross Morley hit a bullet free kick which went wide to the left.   Eventually the hosts got their just deserts when Cade headed the ball on past Byott after 39 minutes to give Horsham the lead. Just before half time Whitstable did have a couple of chances firstly after 42 minutes when a Hafner corner found Jordan Wells who sent the ball wide of the target and then Harvey headed over the bar from another Hafner corner.

The second half start in a similar vein with Horsham on the attack. Things get worse for Town when Harvey picked up an injury and had to leave the field on 50 minutes. Within six minutes Horsham increased their lead when a Ross Morley run resulted in a

ball be cut back to Cade for his second. Worse was to come for Town when on the hour a free kick by  Morley was fired straight into the net to Horsham out of reach. There was a mini fight back in the last ten minutes of the game when Scott Heard got on to the ball in the penalty area and fired home after 84 minutes. Charlie Smith also had a chance with three minutes to go when he got on the end of a ball from Heard but sent his attempt wide. In injury time Jordan Wells hit a shot straight at Horsham Mark Zawadski.

It had been disturbing afternoon for Town from which they must recover as the games come thick and fast.
