The Club are delighted to confirm that for Season 2013-14 they have entered the newly formed Ryman Under 21 League (South), in place of the current Reserve Team set up playing within the Kent League Division 1.
By entering the 10 Team League it is expected that this will improve player development as all players will form part of the First Team Squad; thus providing greater opportunity for younger players to understand the necessary levels of commitment, expectation & environment if they are to progress within the semi-professional game through our First Team & potentially beyond.
Fixtures are expected to be limited to 9 Home and Away on both Midweek & Saturday’s, with no cup competition; Clubs entered within the ‘South’ include: Burgess Hill, Hastings United, Leatherhead, Maidstone United, Margate, Ramsgate, Thamesmead Town, Three Bridges, Tooting & Mitcham.
Sponsorship will be sought, including ideally the provision of a Small Coach or Mini-bus for the Away fixtures, and indeed will be necessary in order to compete at this level.
3 Over-Age players will be permitted; with what is expected to be an improved standard, which may include returning regular ‘First Team’ players from injury or simply an environment in which to provide the opportunity to participate and compete with similar players gaining valuable minutes.
A number of our current successful Reserve Team players are U21 & by entering this competition will hopefully continue to improve and develop their own potential within the Club gaining a broader experience and understanding if indeed they are to progress.
The Club, having played within the Kent League structure for many years wish to thank & acknowledge the Kent League ‘Board’ & Member Clubs with whom they have formed many special friendships over the years. Gary commented ‘On behalf of all at the Club, may I thank you (the Kent League) & your committee for your support over the many years of association; the Club will of course continue to support & promote the League at every opportunity.’
The Coaching & Management structure will be announced in due course, however the Football Management & ‘Board’ are delighted to announce this development; Reserve Team Manager Bob Reardon commented ‘I am very pleased with the clubs intention to enter the Ryman U21 league for the forthcoming season, I believe with the talent we have already at the club , and the recruitment that Nicky and myself have going , I can see this being very exciting, we are looking forward to the step up for all concerned next season.’
