Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Saturday 12th December 2015

Finally, Whitstable’s long losing run is over as they won 4-3 at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday afternoon but it came with a number of heart stopping moments.

It was Whitstable who were first out of the blocks as after only sixty seconds Charlie Smith hit a shot from the right across the face of the goal. Peacehaven did not have to wait long as on five minutes Jordan Badger shot straight at Town keeper

Dan Eason. Whitstable were ahead on ten minutes when a Reiss Crimmen corner from the left found its way to Smith who poked the ball home. Town were now dominating the proceedings in the strong wind. Grant fed the ball to Smith who fired over and then Grant himself fired straight at visitor’s keeper Daniel Hutchings. Grant created Whitstable’s second when he fed the ball into Sam Bewick who side footed the ball into the net. Grant who was a thorn in the Peacehaven side all afternoon then had a shot on half an hour that was well pushed away by Hutchings. Despite looking comfortable Town gave away an unnecessary penalty on 39 minutes when Fraser Logan was brought down in the penalty area. Up stepped Jamie Brotherton who slotted the ball into the net. One more chance from Whitstable on the stroke of half time as Grant forced his way into the penalty area but his shot went over the bar.

The second half started in the same manner and on 49 minutes Jerry Adjei sent in a cross that Grant met with his head but Hutchings was on hand to push the ball round the post for a corner. Another Grant chance saw the striker fire wide followed by debutant Taser Hussan who fired a free kick over the bar. Town’s pressure was rewarded when Grant finally broke through and stroked the ball home after 63 minutes

to make it 3-1. Town continued to press and Bewick was next to have a shot saved by Hutchings. It looked like the hosts had sealed the win with twenty minutes to go as Grant scored his second and Town’s fourth. Suddenly Peacehaven start to press to try to get back in the game and on 77 minutes they pulled a goal back as Allieu Secko hooked the ball home through a crowd of players. Maxime Agnoly was to repeat the feat three minutes later to bring the deficit down to one goal. Peacehave maintained the pressure looking for the equaliser as Town defended desperately. However Grant on the break found himself one on one with Hutchings but the keeper saved well. Despite the onslaught from Peacehaven looking for a point Town held on to take their first win and points since 15th October to the relief of the home supporters.

It was a thoroughly entertaining game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
