Whitstable Town and Folkestone Invicta battled through the mud to produce an entertaining draw at the Belmont on Saturday afternoon.

Folkestone had most of the possession in the early part of the game but the first chances came for the Town. After six minutes David Raggett fed Steve Hafner but his shot went straight at Invicta keeper Tim Roberts. Three minutes later  Town’s Dan Keyte fired from the edge of the area but the ball was slowed in the mud and Roberts was able to collect easily. Folkestone had their first real opportunity after 13 minutes when  Johan Ter Horst

found Paul Booth who headed over the bar.  Town were back on the attack after 16 minutes when Scott Heard cut in and shot across the face of goal and the ball went wide. Then on 29 minutes Jake Mackenzie weaved his way through the Folkestone defence but eventually could not get any power in his shot and Roberts made an easy save. Folkestone then took the lead as former Whitstable player Dane Luchford crossed and Ter Horst got in on the near post to divert the ball into the net beating Town keeper Luke Watkins. A couple of opportunities for Town to equalise before half time came to nothing as firstly Joe Kane on the far post looped the ball over the bar and Scott Heard also sent a shot that went over.

The second half started with Town looking to level the scores and a two minutes

into the half they got what they deserved as Hafner sent in a cross that was flicked on by Raggett to Scott Heard who sent the ball into the net.  Both teams continued to battle in the mud and after 74 minutes Hafner ran into the area but his final attempt was blocked.  A minute later Liam Friend sent a header over the Whitstable bar and then after 82 minutes ex Whitstable midfielder Micheal Everitt hit a shot straight at Watkins. With three minutes left on the clock Luchford hit the ball goalwards but again Watkins was able to clear this time with his feet.

Both sides eventually had to settle for a point after an entertaining match in the very difficult conditions.
