Walton Casuals 3 Whitstable Town 1

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Tuesday 8th April 2014

After a bright start, Whitstable Town lost their way on Tuesday evening to whimper to a three one defeat at Walton Casuals.

The first chance did come for Walton Casuals on three minutes when Scott Day shot over from the edge of the penalty area. A minutes later at the other end  Ashley Miller weaved his way through the Casuals defence and shot at keeper Tom Welham. Then on 10 minutes Nicky Southall sent in a free kick which  Ollie Brown could not get on the end before a defender pushed the ball away for a corner. From the resultant corner kick Miller’s shot was cleared off the line by the Casuals defence. At this stage things were looking promising for Town.

Laurence Harvey gets goal

Casuals did have an attack after 17 minutes when Simon Huckle cut in but his shot went high and wide of the target. Town took a deserved lead when Laurence Harvey headed on a throw from the near post that looped over Welham after 24 minutes. This seemed to spark Casuals into action. Day had the first chance of an equaliser but his shot was well off target after the half hour and then on 33 minutes Huckle had a shot from the left hand side just wide of the post. Defender Huckle was not to be denied as he shot home after 37 minutes after Town had struggled to clear the ball. Casuals continued to press and went ahead on 39 minutes when Malachi Hudson turned in and hooked the ball past Luke Watkins.

The second half belonged to the hosts although Town did have the first attack when Matt Martin cut in but his shot was deflected for a corner after 52 minutes.

Walton Casuals get goal

On 56 minutes Huckle was again in the action when he headed straight at Watkins. Ten minutes later the game was over when Gabriel Okunaike looped a header over Watkins to give Casuals a 3-1 lead. There was few chances at either end towards the end of the game but little threat from the visitors. Jamil Okai had a free header with three minutes to go but he headed wide and then deep into injury time Martin found himself one on one with the Walton Casuals keeper Welham who was able to block.

It was a bad evening for Town who must now look to Saturday to get some points to secure their Ryman South future.
