Herne Bay 0 Whitstable Town 2

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Monday 6th April 2015

Whitstable Town won the bragging rights on Monday afternoon as they ran out 2-0 winners in the derby game at Herne Bay.

The first chance however came for the Bay after eight minutes as a header went just wide. Town then took  the initiative as their first attempt came from Scott Heard who after twelve minutes fired the ball high over the bar. Ian Pulman then got in a cross that

Tom Loynes shot over. On the quarter of an hour  Ollie Gray clipped the ball in, finding Kane Rowland who shot straight at Bay keeper Jack Delo.  On 19 minutes Herne Bay were reduced to ten men as Sam Hasler was sent off for a crude challenge on Jake Mackenzie. Within four minutes Town were ahead when Luke Girt weaved in along the by line sending in a cross that was fired home by Heard from close range.  On 26 minutes Pulman firstly had a shot blocked and the rebound found Girt who shot was well knocked away  by Dan Johnson for a corner. Michael Turner did have an opportunity for Herne Bay on the half hour when he looped the ball into Luke Watkins arms.  Town were to increase their lead sixty seconds before the interval when the ball found its way to the far post and Pulman stroked the ball home.

The second half started with Town looking for a third goal. Firstly Pulman played a wall pass with Rowland but fired over the bar. However Bay were creating some opportunities and were starting

to apply some pressure  and the experienced Mark Lovell hit a shot on the run off target. Pulman then had a shot well blocked by ex Whitstable defender Liam Quinn. With twenty minutes to go Rowland should perhaps have done better when he sailed a shot over the bar. He then put in a ball for Pulman but the striker spooned the ball over the bar. On 77 minutes an excellent ball in from Pulman let in Heard whose deft flick went over Delo but landed just wide of the post. One more chance for the Bay to narrow the gap saw a header from Lovell well saved by Watkins.

Town eventually saw out injury time to get the deserved three points in front of 487 people.
