Steve has decided to take a
break from football, whether it’s a short-term thing or long term that is
Steve’s decision. He has a growing family and wife Michele is expecting a new
arrival in May that coupled with his work commitments and unhappy sitting on
the bench these last few weeks, Steve told manager Marc Seager on Tuesday
night.
Marc
saying: “Let me just say what fantastic a signing Marshy has been for this
football club, he will go down as one of the best players to pull on the red
shirt of Town for many a
year. Yes I am disappointed at Steve will not be around the club any
more, everyone knows we are good mates; I was best man at his wedding to Michelle and honoured that he asked me, both our families get on well so
as well as a wrench football wise; it’s a blow personally
On his day, and lets not forget Steve has won just about everything in
the Non League game; no defender could live with him. I respect his decision to
leave the club, but if it were down to me then he would still be in the side
facing Horsham YM, but Marshy has made up his mind and I just want to say…
Marshy thanks for the memories mate and don’t be a stranger at The Belmont.” Over the years
Whitstable have had some great players at the club, non more so than Steve not
only for what he has achieved since he’s been at the club but the ‘lift’ he
gave everyone when he joined. I well remember one of the ‘older supporters’ shaking his head in disbelief when I broke the news
that Whitstable Town had signed ‘Marshy’. “Never thought I see the day,” he
said, “what a player he is, but I still won’t believe it until I see him run
out in a red shirt with the team.”
From all at the club,
supporters, and players, the committee and myself I would like to add my thanks
for his time at the club, Steve is a ‘gent’ and it’s been a delight having him
and his family around the club. As Marc says don’t become a stranger, as you
Michele and the children will always be welcome at the Belmont.

chairman Tony Rouse spoke to Steve on the phone on Friday, and he was at pains to point out
that it was nothing to do
with a fall out between him and Marc or anyone at the club: “Tony; can I just
say that Whitstable has been on of the highlights of my football career, the
improvements you have made in the time I have been at the club, both on the
field and off, are there for all to see. I would like to thank you, Joe, Bruce
and Alan the rest of the committee and the supporters and my fellow players for
making my stay at Whitstable such a pleasure. To play with Marc as a player
then as a manager has been a wonderful experience; It’s not a case of jumping
ship by any means you know my family situation and often I have struggled
through work to get to training. I shall be taking some time out to
‘re-evaluate’ my situation and look back on my time at Whitstable with some
great memories, |
