Mark Wyver reports: Whitstable Town's poor run of form continued as Chipstead completed a Ryman Division One South double at High Road on Saturday.
Whitstable Town's poor run of form continued as Chipstead completed a Ryman Division One South double at High Road on Saturday.

Last years Kent League Champions restored Dan Lawrence to the starting line up at the expense of Steve Marshall who dropped to the bench after last Saturday's 3-2 home loss to Walton Casuals.

An even start to the game saw Danny Tipple and Tom Parker working hard down the left flank for the visitors while for the home side forwards Danny Oakins and Scott Simpson kept Steven Lloyd and Liam Quinn on their toes.

Town's best chance came when Jake Gess tried a shot from just outside the penalty area which unfortunately hit his own player Ian Pulman in front of goal. Marcos Perona also failed to test Andy Parkinson in the home goal after a shot from distance.

The deadlock was finally broken by the home side on 35 minutes when after a superb through ball from Craig Pitterson split the visiting defence and Scott Simpson finished well beating Kevin Fewell with ease. Fewell then came to Whitstable's rescue with two excellent saves as the half came to a close.

After taking a knock during the first half Sam Denly was replaced at the interval by Tommy Martin as Marc Seager's men looked to get back into the game.

Those hopes were dashed however when just two minutes into the second half Lee Sidwell scored the second goal with the Town defence looking as though they were still in the dressing room.

Ian Pulman continued to work hard but was constantly caught offside while Parkinson dealt with a couple of corners by Parker. Liam Quinn also headed over from a Martin corner after Parker had been replaced by Steve Marshall.

On the hour mark the game was finally put to bed when Simpson scored his second goal of the game as the Town defence was again guilty of not marking the opposition.

To the Reds credit they never gave up battling and after winning a free kick on the left hand side sub Tommy Martin beat Parkinson at his near post to score direct from the free kick. Despite Marshall and Pulman both going close in injury time it was The Reds fifteenth Ryman League defeat of the season.
