Whitstable Town 2 vs Walton Casuals 3: Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler speaking after his table topping side had been held
to a draw by a committed Whitstable last week said he worried for Town manager
Marc Seager as he would not want to manage a side who played like heroes one
week, then villains the next. 'Hess's word had more than as hint of truth even though Whitstable took the lead in what was a
very scrappy first half through Danny Tipple after his great run and low shot
past visiting keeper Craig Bradshaw in the 35th minute, they still
looked second best to the visitors. The Casuals striker Nana Rudu was denied by
Town keeper Kevin Fewell who saved with his feet, at the other end Bradshaw
used the same tactic too thwart Whitstable’s Ian Pulman.
The second half stated much
the same until Rudu latched onto a long ball after Whitstable weakly
surrendered possession in thier own half, Rudu shrugging off close attention by
two of Town’s defenders to finish well in the 50th minute. Ten
minute later Rudu scored his second in a move almost a repeat of his first goal
again leaving him one-one with Fewell, finishing well. The visitor’s third
came as Town again surrendered the ball too easily when attacking; this time
Jamal Carr netted after his was allowed too much space to fire in a shot past
Fewell. Town rallied late on; new signing defender Liam Quinn looping the ball
over Bradshaw to add a little gloss to the score in the 85th minute
as they went down 3-2. Whitstable looked upon as a six pointer, so
important are theses game becoming as the league enters its second phrase, with
Whitstable at the wrong end of the table.
