Picture: Danny Tipple whoes shot was deflected for Town's goal: With many so called football pundits predicting a home win for Ryman Division One South leaders Dover Athletic visiting Whitstable Town upset the form book by gaining a 1-1 draw at Crabble on Saturday. After the Boxing day home defeat by Sittingbourne manager Marc Seager restored Jake Gess into a five man midfield at the expense of Tommy Martin who was relegated to the substitutes bench.

It was the home side who had the first shot on goal when John Keister shot tamely at Kevin Fewell while for the Reds Ian Pulman shot wide of the home goal.

Minutes later from a Whitstable corner Steve Marshall and Steven Lloyd both failed to beat Dave Wilkinson before the ball was finally cleared. Marcos Perona also shot wide when well placed in front of goal.

Dover had their chances at the other end when Jon Wallis had a shot deflected off Tom Parker for a corner and Fewell punched away a corner when under pressure from Frannie Collin.

After a goalless first half it was Whitstable who took a surprise lead three minutes into the second period when after a superb run down the left by Danny Tipple his cross was deflected off Matt Bourne and past Wilkinson to put the Reds 1-0 up.

From this moment on the Reds were under constant pressure wirh Fewell, Lloyd and the outstanding Michael Adcock under constant pressure. Adcock received a yellow card after bringing down Jimmy Dryden on the edge of the area only for the free kick to be wasted.

An equaliser finally arrived in the 58th minute when Player/Manager Andy Hessenthaler rifled in a shot, which gave Fewell no chance, and the league leaders were back on level terms.

Gary Sayer cleared an effort of the line and Fewell made some excellent saves as Town survived the Alamo and prove Marc Seager’s words are correct that Whitstable Town can give any side in the Division a run for their money.
