Within thirty minutes of the first whistle Whitstable were three goals down to the ‘Met after goals  from Scott Corbett, (5th minute) a  Dan Stevens free kick (15 minutes) and Michael Cobden notching their 'killer' third in the 30th minute.
Whitstable did have their chances, at two-nil down the home side had their first real chance John Neal’s well struck shot was blocked on the line with keeper Will Packham stranded, Cobden’s goal coming straight from the resulting breakaway as the visitors looked set to score each time they went forward.  Town went into the break 3-0 down, knowing they had a mountain to climb if they were to even salvage a single point.

To their credit Whitstable never gave up coming to terms with the game in the 2nd half, John Neal had another effort blocked on the line and Town had three other half decent chances to get their names on the score sheet. Whitstable keeper Kevin Fewell saved well from Stevens who caused the home side problem all afternoon.

Manager Marc Seager, having to name himself and his 43-year-old goal keeping coach on the subs bench, he was so short of players. Seager saying: “We were down to the bear bones today, we have suffered dreadfully with injuries so far this season then we had two lads suspended and myself and Mark Lane were the only ones with any experience at this level. The first half we shot ourselves in the foot, poor defending for the first, their second was a great free kick, and we were caught out for the third. The lads never gave up and we just did not get the run of the ball; despite having good periods of possession.”

Town now face Eastbourne away then Sittingbourne at home before facing Dover away, Seager is hoping that he will have players fit and ready back for the up-coming games.
