After last weeks encouraging performance at home to Kingstonian, Town manager Marc Seager kept faith with the side that had finished that match. The visitors included former Town striker Andy Constable in their line up as they looked to bounce back from a 4-3 defeat at Walton Casuals.
It was from the first attack of the game that the home side took the lead when from a Danny Tipple cross from the left the ball found its way to Jake Gess who forced the ball over the line despite the efforts of John Whitehouse in the Chatham goal.
The Reds played some excellent football during the first period with young Dan Lawrence showing up well alongside Jon Neal. The midfield were bossing the game with the quartet of Marcos Perona, Sam Denly and wide players Jake Gess and Tom Parker all impressing a crowd of 202.
Kevin Fewell was rarely called into action although big striker Constable blazed over the bar when well placed
The second half was only six minutes old when Lawrence extended the lead after beating the offside trap to beat Whitehouse and score his first goal for the club. After an excellent save by Fewell from Gavin Schulz manager Seager began to change his side around with Tommy Martin, John Akinde and Dan Stubbs all coming on at various stages of the second half.
It was from a marauding run by Akinde, which resulted in Chris Tedder tripping the big striker in the penalty area. From the resulting spot kick Akinde beat Whitehouse with ease to make it 3-0. A string of crosses from Martin were not capitalised on which could have resulted in more goals for Whitstable but a 3-0 score line was no more than a thoroughly enjoyable day of football deserved.
