Match report by Mark Wyver: Whitstable Town travelled to old Kent League rivals Cray Wanderers looking to halt the North Kent clubs rise up the Ryman Division One League table.
Without loan players John Akinde and Dan Stubbs who were both in action for Ebbsfleet United in their Kent Senior Cup tie with Ramsgate the Reds played with Jon Neal as a lone striker. Gary Sayer and Tom Parker returned to the starting line up in their absence. On a pitch that stood up well to the heavy rain it was Cray who looked the more dangerous with the Wood brothers Jamie and Lewis always looking quick on the break. With five men in midfield The Reds looked to over run the home side but the attacking options were limited although striker Neal once again run his socks off for the cause. The opening goal arrived on 26 minutes when David Hall finished well to openin his scoring account for the season. The home side were now looking like they could score at every attack and scored again on 39 minutes when Lewis Wood rifled past Kevin Fewell to make it 2-0 to the Wands. Whitstable battled hard at the beginning of the second half without testing Glen Knight in the home goal. Chances were at a premium as the tackles flew in although Fewell saved well from Michael Power on a home side attack. The Reds did have one chance when Neal beat Knight only for the ball to run agonisingly past the right hand post. The home sides third goal came with fifteen minutes remaining when Jamie Wood got on the end of a Ross Lover cross to convert his fifth goal of the season. Whitstable never gave up and the bustling Neal was rewarded for his efforts when he turned in the box to beat Knight and give the scoreline a more respectful look. WHITSTABLE 1. Fewell 2. Sayer 3.
